Eucalyptus actually refers to a large genus of flowering trees that has over 700 different species, most of which are located in Australia and New Zealand, although some of the more widespread species can be found throughout Southeast Asia. Most of its species range from the size of a small shrub to a medium-sized flowering tree, but all species have leaves that are covered in oil glands, from which the majority of health benefits are derived.
This beneficial plant has been used for thousands of years among indigenous populations.
Originally native to Australia, eucalyptus trees are now grown all over the world and used for their medicinal properties. Their healing power comes from eucalyptus oil, which is made from the tree’s oval-shaped leaves.

The leaves are dried, crushed, and distilled to release the essential oil. After the oil has been extracted, it must be diluted before it can be used as medicine as its oil is very potent. Benefits of eucalyptus oil: this powerful essential oil can improve respiratory conditions and it even works as a natural sore throat remedy, it relieves cough, improves seasonal allergies and fights infections reducing pain and inflammation. It alleviates headaches, it speeds up the healing process of wounds, it improves earaches and boosts mental clarity. In some cases it can also be used as a rat repellent.
