KERALA - REGION OF AVAILABILITY

This flower has much more to offer than its sweet smell and romantic associations. Jasmine flowers are mostly white, but some types are yellow in color. They are believed to have originated in the western China Himalayas. Unlike most types in the Oleceae family, which have four corolla lobe petals, Jasmines often have five or six of them. Jasmines are often strong and sweet scented, they are widely cultivated for their shining leaves and beautiful clusters of fragrant flowers. Flowering takes place in the summer or spring which is usually six months after planting. Jasmine flower releases its fragrance at night after the sun has set and especially when the moon is full. Their buds are more fragrant than the flowers themselves.

There are two types of Jasmine, the real Jasmine and a false Jasmine, the two are commonly mistaken for each other for having similar fragrance. The real Jasmine belongs to the family Oleaceae and is primarily a bushy shrub or a climbing vine and it is non-poisonous.They have oval, shiny leaves and tubular, waxy-white flowers.
False Jasmine on the other hand is in a completely different genus, Gelsemium, which is considered toxic hence its essential oil is not edible. Real Jasmine is used as a depression and anxiety relief, it increases arousal, improves immune system and fights infections, induces sleep and also decreases the major symptoms of menopause. It prevents or treats PM symptoms, helps with post -pregnancy symptoms, reduces respiratory infections, boosts concentration, promotes healthy skin and fight blemishes and acne, it can be used as a natural mood enhancer perfume and in aromatherapy and massage.
